FTSE for Friday: is FTSE 100 really heading back to record high?

It's not been one for the faint-hearted, but recent stock market behaviour appears to be hinting at better times ahead, according to independent analyst Alistair Strang's charts.

Things have been complicated for the FTSE 100. The market has shown early signs of strength during the preceding three days of this week, now only needing move above  8,468 points to hopefully trigger a strong surge to an initial 8,700 points!

While this sounds like a really big deal, the potential was planted on Wednesday morning with the forceful index price spike at the market open. We take this as a signal “they” have a cunning plan unfolding, one which might be fruitful to watch. If triggered, our stop-loss is a bit hideous at 8,360 points, but on any risk/reward scenario, this is worthwhile as our secondary calculates at an absurd sounding 8,887 points!

To dwell on a more miserable plain of existence, what happens if the FTSE crumbles below 8,360 points?

In such a game, our initial target works out at 8,197 with our secondary, if broken, at 8,080 points and maybe even a solid bounce. It’s complicated, but visually we shall not be aghast to witness some near-term reversals, perhaps to bounce above 8,197 points, before surprise recovery toward our upward target levels.

We are in interesting times. Have a good weekend.
