Charles graduated from the University of Oxford as a chemist before joining Cazenove & Co in the early 1990s. Charles became Cazenove's mining analyst, then moved to T Hoare Canaccord in 1999. In 2003, he relocated to New York to develop and market a 'black box' model for valuing large-cap equities. He returned to join Edison in 2007 as its Head of Mining.
